COLUMBIA — The Kiwanis Club of Columbia presented Show-Me State Games Executive Director Ken Ash with the 2011 Don Faurot Sportsperson of the Year Award on Tuesday.

Ash received the award for his life-long career promoting sports and health fitness in Columbia and throughout Missouri as a coach, a teacher and the executive director of the Show-Me State Games, according to a Show-Me State Games press release.

Ash joined the Show-Me State Games in 1989 and worked alongside the associate director before becoming executive director in 2002.

Every year, the Kiwanis Club of Columbia recognizes a citizen who has "greatly contributed to Columbia's sporting community, exudes sportsmanship, acts as a positive role model and promotes teamwork, determination, physical fitness and self-confidence," according to the press release.
