Former Missouri shot-putter Cantwell second at USATF Championships

Monday, June 27, 2011 | 8:44 p.m. CDT

Former Missouri shot-putter Christian Cantwell finished second on Sunday at the USA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

His season best throw of 71 feet, 9 inches was bettered only by Adam Nelson, who won at 72-5 ¾. Cantwell fouled three of his final five throws, including the sixth attempt which appeared to be longer than Nelson's event-winning mark.

Cantwell won the 2010 USATF outdoor championship and has four USATF indoor championships in the shot put.
