COLUMBIA — Police were searching for a 36-year-old black man with dreadlocks driving a 1999 maroon Mercury Sable in connection with the suspected kidnapping of a Columbia woman.

The man, Arthur C. Williams, is suspected of assaulting and kidnapping his 35-year-old girlfriend from her home at 1403 Greensboro Drive in Columbia just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, Columbia Police Officer Latisha Stroer said.

The car’s Missouri license plate number is DG2J1A.

Williams is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. The woman is described as 35 years old and black. Stroer would not release the name of the woman.

A family member of the woman was at the residence and saw Williams assault the woman and drag her to the car as she screamed for help, Stroer said. The family member called 911 at 11:03 a.m.

Police were asking people who see Williams or the vehicle in question to call 911.
