COLUMBIA — With Independence Day around the corner, here are some events going on around Columbia to help celebrate the holiday.
Enjoy a music-filled evening with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra. The concert is part of the Hot Summer Nights Music Festival. This Pops concert will feature traditional anthems and "musical fireworks and a few canons," according to the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts' website.

Cost: $20 to $25 per ticket; $10 for a student ticket
Fire in the Sky
The city is hosting its 59th annual Fourth of July celebration. Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. and will include performances by The Record Collector Rhythm & Soul Review and the Hickman High School Choir. Children's activities will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will include obstacle courses, carnival games, face painting, balloon art and arts and crafts. Fireworks will begin after 9 p.m. Concessions will be available, and attendees are asked to not bring fireworks to the stadium.

I Love America Festival
The fifth annual I Love America Festival is a family event that celebrates America’s birthday. This year, the New Life Community Church has invited the Central Missouri Honor Flight to be the centerpiece of the event. A ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. to honor all those who serve. Other attractions include carnival games, bounce houses, a petting zoo and rides on the “I Love America Express.” A family race competition will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a pie-baking contest will take place at 6 p.m. A faith and freedom concert will provide entertainment starting at 8 p.m. A fireworks display accompanied by patriotic music performed by Lindley Creek Bluegrass will begin at 9 p.m.
