Man talked down from Fifth and Walnut parking garage

COLUMBIA — Part of Fifth Street was blocked off for about 15 minutes Tuesday afternoon after police received a call that a man was sitting on the edge of the southwest corner of the Fifth and Walnut Street parking garage.

The Columbia Police Department dispatched at 12:07 p.m. The man, who was threatening to jump, was talked down by two officers specially trained in crisis intervention. At 12:24 p.m., the man was safely brought into police custody, said Sgt. Jill Wieneke, the department's public information officer.
