COLUMBIA – At approximately 12:04 a.m. Saturday in the area of White Gate Drive and Sylvan Lane an 18-year old man was shot in the hip while at home. The injury was not life threatening, according to Columbia Police.

Officer Dallas Dollens was in the area when he heard the gunfire and called it in, according to Sgt. Jill Wieneke.

The victim was inside his apartment at 1511 Sylvan Lane at the time of the shooting. A witness also made a call to the police to alert them of the shooting and injury.

The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance in stable condition and taken into surgery, according to Wieneke.

Investigators and forensic evidence personnel were able to locate several bullet casings outside of the residence and identify areas of the building that were hit by the gunfire.

The Columbia police are continuing their investigation efforts but have no leads or suspects at this time. They believe that the incident might be gang related.
