COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff's Department received five calls Monday morning from homeowners of the Sunrise Estates subdivision reporting their cars had been gone through by intruders.

One of the five reported a theft from a vehicle. Stolen items included cash, a check and a pair of sunglasses. All of the cars had been left unlocked overnight.

Police believe the incidents occurred late Sunday night or early Monday morning, said  Detective Tom O'Sullivan of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

O'Sullivan said he wanted to remind people to lock their vehicles and not leave valuable articles in sight.
