COLUMBIA — A fire on Monday night caused more than $50,000 in damage to a barn on Route N. No one was injured.

Scott Olsen, Boone County Fire Protection District chief, said the homeowner alerted authorities to the blaze at 9:44 p.m. Three engines, four tankers, one rescue squad, one ambulance and 26 volunteer firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:51 p.m.

By the time authorities arrived, the barn was completely engulfed in flames.

Olsen said the property was insured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the extensive damage makes finding the source unlikely.

"I'm not sure that we'll ever determine it," Olsen said.
