KANSAS CITY — Thousands of people in the Kansas City area were still without power early Monday after a storm carrying winds between 60 to 75 mph and heavy rain hit the area Sunday.
Initially, about 50,000 people lost power, but Kansas City Power and Light employees working throughout the night had reduced the number to 9,000 by early Monday.
The National Weather Service said the storm dropped up to an inch of rain in parts of Platte and Clay counties in less than an hour. Most of the damage was reported north of the Missouri River.
Kansas City Power & Light handed out dry ice Sunday night and planned to continue the effort Monday for people still without power.
