COLUMBIA — Drivers will need to adjust their travel plans later this month, as construction begins on the new diamond interchange at U.S. 63 and Route H near Columbia Regional Airport.
Route H will be temporarily closed at U.S. 63 on Monday, Aug. 22, weather permitting, and a detour will be created on Route AB and Rangeline Road, said Charles Sullivan, resident engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
This alternate route will be in place for nearly two months as the new connection is built at Route H and Hardwick Lane, he said. After the new connection is finished, motorists will be able to access Route H using Hardwick Lane, Sullivan said.
Route H will stay closed at U.S. 63 until the interchange opens, he said.
The $9.8 million diamond interchange project broke ground Monday and is expected to be completed by late 2012.
