MU welcomes students to campus with annual midnight barbecue

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 | 1:24 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — MU’s annual Midnight BBQ will take place from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday on Rollins Street in front of the MU Student Center.

The Missouri Students Association expects somewhere between 10,000 and 13,000 students to attend the event, based on attendance last year.

Hoss’s Market will serve nearly 1,440 pounds of pulled pork and beef brisket, along with potato salad and baked beans. The Mizzou Student Veterans Association will grill 2,000 hot dogs for the event. Vegetarian options will also be available.

This year’s barbecue will feature a new activity called “Words With Tigers.” Attendees will receive T-shirts printed with a letter to help find other students to create words and compete for prizes. These prizes include an iPad and Walmart gift cards.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside the MU Student Recreation Complex at the intersection of Hitt and Rollins streets.
