COLUMBIA — Two Rock Bridge High School students, one male and one female, were injured in a car accident on their way to school Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at about 7:20 a.m., as the students turned toward Old Plank Road from Route K. A dump truck struck the passenger side of their SUV, causing it to spin, said Boone County Fire Department Chief Gale Blomenkamp.

Both drivers managed to work their way out of the damaged vehicles with minor injuries. The SUV's passenger, the female student, suffered more serious injuries after being trapped inside the vehicle for almost an hour before firefighters peeled off the roof of the vehicle at 8:14 a.m. and got her out.

All three were taken to University Hospital. Blomenkamp declined to release the students' names, as they are minors.
