COLUMBIA — The Voluntary Action Center will sponsor its 20th annual volunteer fair on Aug. 31.

To recognize two decades of the recruitment fair,  the city's Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., said Cindy Mustard, executive director of the center.

Representatives from about 45 volunteer and community outlets — including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Central Missouri Humane Society, KOPN Radio and the Citizen Jane Film Festival — will set up tables during the fair, Mustard said.

“It’s a win-win situation because students learn more about local non-profit organizations and the agencies benefit from the volunteer spirit students bring,” Mustard said.

The University YMCA and Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, will sponsor the event.

The fair will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lowry Mall on the MU campus.
