COLUMBIA — Byron Hill, president and CEO of Analyticial Bio-Chemistry Laboratories, Inc., is retiring, effective immediately, according to an email from the company on Friday.

Hill has been head of ABC Labs, a local research and development firm for pharmaceutical, agricultural, animal health and chemical companies, for more than seven years. Hill previously served as vice president and chief financial officer, as well as chief operating officer for the company, according to a news release from Marta Fahrenbrink, the company's manager of corporate services.

Dale Creach, formerly CEO of MFA Oil Co., will serve as interim president and CEO of ABC Labs until a permanent hire can be made, the release stated.

Under Hill's  leadership, ABC Labs opened a 90,000-square foot, $15 million facility at MU's Discovery Ridge Research Park in September 2008; in 2010, the company's original campus underwent a $4.5 million renovation and expansion.

According to the company's statement about Hill's retirement, during his tenure as president "ABC enjoyed substantial growth and became an industry leader."

Hill received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University, and is a certified public accountant, according to the company's website. He has a background in technology company management, as well as financial planning and control.

No reason was given for Hill’s sudden departure. Fahrenbrink could not be reached for comment.
