COLUMBIA — A Columbia man died in a car crash on Blue Ridge Road early Saturday morning.

Four people were traveling east on Blue Ridge Road when Desmeisha Thomas, 19, lost control of the Nissan Pathfinder she was driving and hit a curb, according to a Columbia Police Department news release. The SUV, which hit a telephone pole on the passenger side, flipped and slid for about 75 feet.

David Mcbride, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger, Lateshia Jordan, 18, were taken to University Hospital. Thomas sustained moderate injuries, and Jordan sustained life-threatening injuries, according to the news release. The third passenger, James Miller, 18, was taken to Boone Hospital Center for non-life threatening injuries, the release said.

No arrests have been made, although the police think alcohol and high speed contributed to the accident, according to the release.
