Canoe-kayak race for adult/child teams to be held at Philips Lake Park

Saturday, September 3, 2011 | 9:34 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The Generations Adult/Child Canoe-Kayak Race will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 24 at Philips Lake Park.

The race requires adult competitors be at least 21 years old and there must be at least a 14-year age difference between the child and adult. Child age groups are 5 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 and 14. Teams can use any tandem canoe or kayak and participants must wear properly fitting personal flotation devices. Competitors may use single or double blade paddles.

First- through third-place finishers will win prizes. A free paddling clinic will follow the race.

There is a $12 per team entry fee. A limited number of canoes are available. For more information on the event or canoe rentals, email Charlie Lockwood at or Brennan VanMatre at or call 573-817-2955.
