ST. LOUIS — The campaign to raise money for renovation of the building that will become the new headquarters for St. Louis police didn't last long.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that less than a minute after launching a capital campaign on Tuesday, St. Louis Police Foundation President Doug Albrecht ended it by handing the chief a check for $3 million.

An anonymous donor had come forward to provide $2 million. The Albrecht Family Foundation provided $750,000, and the Ruth D. and Whylie Todd Charitable Foundation donated the other $250,000.

The goal is to have the department move from its longtime headquarters at 1200 Clark Ave. to the new location at 1915 Olive St. within 12 to 18 months.
