COLUMBIA — The Missouri women's soccer team beat the Arizona Wildcats 1-0 Friday in Tempe, Ariz., in the Sun Devil Desert Classic. It was Missouri's second road win of the season and their sixth win overall.

The Tigers fought their way to victory in a game under unusual weather conditions. Both teams defended well throughout the match and had clear chances to score.

Rain storms and a lightning alert forced an interruption of the game 25 minutes into the first half. After a half-hour wait, the players came back to the field and play resumed.

In the second half, the sun was shining again. The Tigers shone, too.

Sophomore striker Brooke Williams scored the game's only goal in the 75th minute. It was her second goal of the season.

Assistant coach Shaunna Daugherty praised her team's concentration during Friday's game.

"We are proud of the way the team responded," Daugherty said. "You never know how these interruptions can affect them. Their mentality can get disrupted. But it didn't affect them at all."

Friday's game was the third in a row Missouri's defense did not allow a goal.

"The back line is the most veteran part of our team," Daugherty said. "They are smart and experienced. They are reading the game very well."

The Tigers are now 6-1-0.

The Tigers will stay in Tempe to play Arizona State at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
