Columbia College volleyball advances at Graceland Invitational

COLUMBIA — Columbia College volleyball went 2-0 in pool play at the 40th Annual Graceland Pizza Shack Invitational on Friday at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Cougars did not drop a set on their way to the top of the Gold Pool, defeating host Graceland 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 and Ashford University 25-17, 25-17, 26-24.

Vesna Trivunovic led the team in kills with 16 against Graceland and 14 against Ashford.  Paula Ferreira paced the team in assists with 35 and 38, respectively. 

Aleah Hayes had a team-high 16 digs in the first game and 19 in the second.  She also led the team with three aces in the Ashford match, while Serena Jenkins led with three against Graceland.

The Cougars advance to play Oklahoma Baptist University in a semifinal at 10 a.m. Saturday, and with a win they would advance to the finals, scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
