ST. LOUIS — A U.S. House transportation budget plan could jeopardize St. Louis-to-Kansas City Amtrak service.
KMOX Radio reported that the House Appropriations Subcommittee is proposing the elimination of federal funding to Amtrak used for the operating costs of state-supported trains. That would include trains that run from St. Louis to Kansas City and three of the five trains between St. Louis and Chicago.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said that, if passed, the plan would cut off federal funding on Oct. 1. Magliari said ridership is up on the routes from St. Louis to both cities, and separate federal funding is in place for track improvements.
