WEST BOULEVARD: Natural, organic grocery store to open on Stadium Boulevard

Monday, September 19, 2011 | 12:46 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — An organic grocery store is set to open Sept. 27, pending approval from the City of Columbia. Natural Grocers is an all-natural and organic, family-owned grocery store chain.

The store will carry more than 11,000 natural and organic items including, fresh produce, vitamins, juices and milk. Other items include baby foods, meats, pasta and desserts.

Nearly 500 items, including beans, nuts, candy, grains and baking supplies, will be sold in bulk.

Natural pet items, such as food, body care and treats, are carried. Natural household items like cleaners and housewares are also available.

According to their website, customers can special order products at no additional charge. Items usually take less than one week to arrive.

The new store has two final requirements to meet before it is issued a permanent certificate of occupancy for the location at 400 N. Stadium Boulevard in the old Ethan Allen showroom near the intersection with Worley Street.

“The only thing they’re missing is a yard final and landscape,” Building Regulation Supervisor John Sudduth said.

The approval of the landscape may have been postponed due to recent weather. Sudduth said if weather is to blame, Natural Grocers can be granted a temporary certificate of occupancy until final approval can be given.

Natural Grocers will be open Monday through Saturday 8:56 a.m. to 8:06 p.m. and Sunday 9:56 a.m. to 6:06 p.m. The store will observe five holidays and hold holiday hours during three holidays. A grand opening is set for Tues., Sept. 27.
