Tuesday, September 20, 2011 | 1:15 p.m. CDT

FAIRVIEW — Kindergarten students and their families will gather on the playground behind Fairview Elementary School at 6 p.m. Thursday to share food, meet faculty and socialize during the annual picnic.

“I enjoy the opportunity for families to get acquainted with one another,” said Diana DeMoss, the school's principal.. “They are encouraged to use the evening to meet the other students and families that are in their classroom. It also allows our teachers and staff to meet the families of the newest students at Fairview.”

Families are asked to bring a dish to contribute to the picnic.

"We hope to help families feel more welcome into the Fairview community.  I think it is a very positive experience, and we have a lot of fun," said Anja Walentik, a kindergarten teacher at Fairview.
