Missouri women's soccer falls to Texas Tech in Big 12 opener

Friday, September 23, 2011 | 10:36 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Three minutes into its first Big 12 conference game, the Missouri women's soccer team fell behind. Things did not get better from there.

The Tigers lost 1-0 to Texas Tech on Friday in Lubbock, Texas.

It was not the start the Tigers (8-3) wanted.

The Red Raiders took an early lead with a goal off a corner kick in the third minute of the first half. Missouri had only a handful of chances in the first half.

Although Missouri dominated possession and pressed the Red Raiders in the second half, forwards Abi Raymer and Alyssa Diggs were not able to convert two scoring opportunities. Midfielder Dominique Richardson's late effort also went wide of the goal.

Friday's loss marked the beginning of a tough conference schedule for Missouri. The Tigers will now travel to Stillwater, Okla., where they are set to face No. 2 Oklahoma State at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
