COLUMBIA — The Central Missouri Humane Society will host two Community Give Back nights in October.
The first will be Oct. 6, at the Subway in the Rock Bridge Shopping Center. From 4 to 8 p.m., 15 percent of the total cost of meals bought at the sub sandwich chain will be donated to the humane society. No flier mentioning the event is necessary to participate.
The second will be Oct. 13, at the Ruby Tuesday at 2010 Bernadette Drive. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of diners' total bills to the humane society. The event will take place throughout the entire day, but participants must show restaurant employees a flier promoting the event. The flier is available on the humane society's website.
The money raised will go toward veterinary care for the animals, including spaying and neutering and vaccinations, said Allison Brown, shelter relations coordinator. Any leftover money will go toward food for the animals.
Brown said the humane society hopes to raise $100 at the first fundraiser and between $150 and $200 at the second.
The Subway Community Give Back Night fundraisers at Subway will repeat on the first Thursday of every month.
The humane society has been hosting community fundraisers for more than two years but want to experiment with new ways to do the event, such as a car wash, Brown said.
