Friday, September 30, 2011 | 1:24 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — The Intersection will host its annual fall barbecue at 4 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the food, there will be live music, games, prizes and a barbecue cooking competition among the students.

Prior to the barbecue, The Intersection will hold an “Empowerment Camp” for students in eighth grade and younger. Participants can do leadership and perseverance exercises under the direction of MU student athletes. The camp will feature a three-on-three teen basketball tournament.

The Intersection is an independent nonprofit after-school program that promotes the development of healthy communities. Its mission is to provide a place and programs where children can gather, gain and give back as responsible members of society.

MU alumni will serve food and help with the activities. Cost for the barbecue is $5.
