COLUMBIA — Individual runners from the Hickman boys and girls cross country teams won their respective races at the Camdenton Laker 5K on Saturday.

Senior Devin Sander won the boys race with a meet record of 15:49. On the girls side, junior Nicole Mello took first at 18:04, a record for the course and the meet. It was the third race Mello has won this season.

The boys team placed fourth overall at the meet. Other top finishers for the Kewpies included junior Ethan Zars in 17th place with senior Bobby Hanson close behind in 21st place. All seven boys from Hickman placed in the top 50 finishers.

The girls team had only four runners, which was not enough to give them an overall team placement. However, all of the girls finished in the top 25. Sophomore Madison May placed 20th, followed closely by sophomore Paige Oursler in 21st. Sophomore Becca Katz took 24th to round out the team.

The Kewpies will be preparing for the Helias Invitational next weekend in Binder Park in Jefferson City.
