BLUE RIDGE-OAKLAND: Lange Middle School to host chili dinner, street dance

Tuesday, October 4, 2011 | 5:36 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Lange Middle School will hold its second annual chili dinner and street dance from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Lange PTA inaugurated the chili cook-off last year and added the dance with a guest DJ this year to engage the students.

"Trying to come up with something for this age group is challenging," said Alison Ramsey, Lange's PTA president. "All kids love music and love to dance. It gets Lange and the community to interact and have fun in a great environment along with their teachers and staff."

Lange teachers will compete against each other in a cook-off. The first-, second- and third-place winners will receive movie tickets to Hollywood Theaters, Ramsey said.

"It was comical listening to the teachers talk about their secret chili recipe," she said. "The students loved listening to them talk about how they were going to have the best chili."

At least 200 people attended last year, and the PTA hopes to double that number this year, Ramsey said.
