Wednesday, October 5, 2011 | 11:57 p.m. CDT

The Rock Bridge girls golf team won the Class 2, Sectional 3 tournament, setting a school record for 18 holes with a 333 on Wednesday at River Cut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

Kaitlyn Marsh led the Bruins, finishing in a three-way tie for second with a 7-over par 79, and Makayla Baker was sixth with an 81. Morgan Reimler was ninth with a 86, and Megan Goree tied for 10th at 87.

Rock Bridge advances to state tournament competition October 17 and 18 in Sedalia. The Bruins placed fourth at last year's state tournament.

"It was a good round and good practice for what we'll be facing at state," Rock Bridge coach Melissa Melahn said by phone. "We know some of the teams we'll see there will fight us right to the last hole."

Kickapoo (349) placed second at Wednesday's event and Blue Springs (371) was third. Hickman (386) was fourth, but advanced two players to individual state competition. Patricia De Castro was tied for 12th with an 88, and Laura Rowe tied for 19th at 93.
