Two vehicles damaged in fire at Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival

HARTSBURG — Volunteer firefighters were called to respond to two fires Saturday in the corn field parking lots of the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival.

The first fire caught in the corn and resulted in no damage; the second fire caught a Cadillac Escalade and a Kia sport-utility vehicle.

One fire engine responded to the call, said Lt. Brian Lewis, a volunteer firefighter.

The two vehicles were damaged, but the extent of damage was not known. No cause has been found for the fire. According to Lewis, the owners of the vehicles were notified, and the vehicles were removed from the scene.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department will be taking over the investigation, Lewis said.

This was the first time a vehicle had caught fire during the festival, Lewis said.
