COLUMBIA — Two women were hit by a vehicle at 1:30 p.m. Saturday while they were walking on Rock Quarry Road.

The Columbia Fire Department, University Hospital Ambulance Service and Boone County Fire Protection District responded to the call.

One woman had been injured in the accident and was taken by ambulance to Boone Hospital Center, and the other woman was injured but was not transported to the hospital, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and second degree assault, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said.

Columbia Fire Department Battalion Chief James Weaver said the names of the two women and the driver were not available.
