Hickman boys cross country team advances to sectionals

COLUMBIA - The Hickman boys cross country team advanced to next weekend's sectional competition with a third-place finish at the Class 4, District 5 meet Saturday in Lebanon.

Kewpies senior Devin Sander was fourth in 15:54. Junior Ethan Zars was 12th in 16:57.

Although the Hickman girls team did not advance to sectionals as a team, three runners qualified for sectionals. Junior Nicole Mello won the girls race for the third consecutive year. Her time of 18:22 was 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Kewpies sophomores Madison May and Becca Katz also qualified. May finished 19th in 21:09, and Katz came in 28th place in 22:11. The top 30 runners and top four teams advance to the sectional meet.

The Class 4, Sectional 3 meet is set for next Saturday at Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Camdenton. The state championships are scheduled for Nov. 5.
