JEFFERSON CITY — A third Republican is jumping into the Missouri secretary of state race.

Shane Schoeller, of Willard, said Monday he will be a candidate for the office. He joins two Republican state senators and a Democratic House member who already have declared their candidacies.

Incumbent Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced Sept. 30 that she would not seek a third term.

The 40-year-old Schoeller is the House speaker pro tem. He said he would seek a requirement for voters to show a photo ID to cast ballots and also would focus on developing fair summaries for ballot measures. He also wants to hold down regulations and fees for new businesses.

Already running are Republicans Scott Rupp and Bill Stouffer and Democrat Jason Kander.
