EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — Authorities said a body found near the Mississippi River in East St. Louis is that of a missing Missouri man.

Investigators said 23-year-old Darius Ewing's wrapped body was found Monday along a street surrounded by weeds near the Casino Queen.

Acting Police Chief Bobby Cole said the St. Louis man apparently had been shot in the head before his body was dumped. Authorities said the killing happened in Missouri's St. Louis County, where investigators have taken over the case.

Cole said Ewing had been reported missing from Clayton in suburban St. Louis.

It's not immediately clear when Ewing was killed.

There's no word on any arrests or charges.
