COLUMBIA — Lakeview Avenue at Rangeline Road will be temporarily closed for new roadway pavement at 7 a.m. Monday.

The Columbia Public Works Department expects the work to be completed and the road fully reopened by Thursday, according to a news release.

Grun-D Construction is putting in a crosswalk and a new sidewalk on Rangeline Road from Business Loop 70 to Big Bear Boulevard as part of the project.

The work is being funded through GetAbout Columbia, a $22 million program funded by the Federal Highway Administration that aims to get people biking and walking instead of using vehicles. The program makes recommendations to the City Council on how the money should be allocated.

GetAbout Columbia projects started in 2006 and will last until 2013. Other projects currently under way include sidewalk installation on Walnut Street from William Street to Old 63 and sidewalk installation on Broadway from Fairview Road to Stadium Boulevard. A path is also being built to connect Garth Avenue to the MKT trail, said Public Works spokeswoman Jill Stedem.
