Missouri to close five state parks for deer hunts

Friday, November 18, 2011 | 9:29 a.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri will close five state parks for special deer hunts on two upcoming weekends.

Park officials said the managed hunts will be held this weekend in Pomme de Terre State Park and the weekend of Dec. 10-11 in Ha Ha Tonka State Park, Knob Noster State Park, Rock Bridge Memorial State Park and Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and Historic Site.

The parks will be closed those weekends to everyone except hunters with special permits.

Hunting is normally not allowed in state parks, but officials said the special hunts are a way to manage the deer population.
