COLUMBIA — The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a Friday night car accident that left three people dead.
The accident occurred on westbound Interstate 70, at exit 87, around 9:35 p.m, according to a report from the highway patrol. Driver Judy Ritoch, 50, of Independence, slowed her vehicle and was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer rig driven by Dustin Wright, 30. Ritoch's car then caught fire.
Ritoch's husband, David Ritoch, 49, and mother-in-law, Eileen Ritoch, 77, of Sweet Springs, were passengers in the car. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Wright, of Nobel, Ill., was not injured.
Chris Ritoch, brother of David Ritoch, said the family was on their way home from the wedding of David Ritoch's daughter in Rolla.
Sgt. Paul Reinsch of the highway patrol said that no charges had been filed against Wright, and that the accident was still under investigation.
