COLUMBIA — Rock Bridge High School and Columbia Area Career Center were placed on modified lockdown Monday afternoon as a precaution, said Michelle Baumstark, Columbia Public Schools community relations coordinator.

Columbia police said via social media that police were on the scene after a report of shots fired on the outer roadway. But it wasn't immediately clear whether that was Santana Lane, which runs parallel to Providence Road, Southampton Drive or Providence itself.

A modified lockdown means the external doors of the building have been locked. The operations of the school were not affected, Baumstark said.

No one was injured.
