The Boone County Sheriff’s Department received a Missouri Attorney General Justice Award for traffic and DWI enforcement during a ceremony Monday in Jefferson City, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

The department's Traffic Unit was recognized for its enforcement of driving laws and 500 DWI arrests in 2010. The Columbia chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving nominated the unit.

“We received many excellent nominations, and our final decisions were difficult, but as evident in their nominations, these individuals and organizations were more than deserving of recognition for making a significant contribution to further justice,” Attorney General Chris Koster said in the news release.
