Columbia indoor winter farmers market moves to new location

Thursday, December 1, 2011 | 1:50 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — Columbia's indoor winter farmers market, which started in 2010, has moved to a new location for the season.

The market will open Saturday inside the south entrance of Parkade Plaza, 601 W. Business Loop 70. Hours are from 9 a.m. to noon. The market is open every Saturday through March 17, except on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

In 2010, the winter market was held at Rock Bridge Christian Church.

Mark Mahnken, president of the board of directors of the market, attributed the move to the necessity of a larger facility because of new farmers. He expects around 20 vendors when it opens Saturday.

The market features products from local vendors, such as greens, lettuce, spinach, kale, winter squashes, herbs, eggs, beef, pork and baked goods.

For an application to become a vendor or more information, contact market director Caroline Todd, 823-6889.
