Hotel offers free rooms to hospital, prison visitors at Christmas

COLUMBIA — Visitors to hospitals, jails, prisons or nursing homes on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 can stay for free at the Super 8 hotel in Kingdom City.

The hotel has provided free rooms on those nights every year throughout its 22-year existence, general manager Scott Meislin said.

"It's a hotel tradition that you don't see much nowadays, but you would see more 50 years ago—neighbors helping neighbors," he said.

People visiting friends or relatives in the following facilities are eligible, according to a news release from Super 8:

An amazing tradition that few nowadays would ever consider doing. Really shows that some people in business still care about their community.
