Missouri men's basketball team at No. 8 in AP poll

COLUMBIA — The Missouri men's basketball team moved to No. 8 in Monday's new Associated Press Top 25 poll, up from No. 9 last week.

The Tigers, who used 18 points, five assists and two steals from Phil Pressey to beat Illinois 78-74 in Thursday night's Braggin' Rights game in St. Louis, stay at No. 8 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll.

Missouri is 12-0 for the first time since opening the 1981-82 season 19-0.

The top seven teams remain the same in the AP poll, with Syracuse No. 1 for a third straight week. Ohio State (No. 2), Kentucky (No. 3), Louisville (No. 4), North Carolina (No. 5), Baylor (No. 6) and Duke (No. 7) held their places from last week. Connecticut and Florida follow Missouri in the top 10.

Harvard moved into the rankings for the first time three weeks ago, then dropped out after one week. The Crimson are back at No. 24. San Diego State moved into the poll for the first time this season at No. 25.

Xavier, which lost three straight games after several players were suspended for fighting, dropped out from No. 14.
