COLUMBIA — A Columbia man died Saturday morning after his car hit a tree, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Donald G. Chick, 56, was traveling north on Wagon Trail Road, a couple miles off of North Highway 763 near the 63 Diner, to his home on Clays Fork Road in north Columbia. At 12:26 a.m., the Sheriff's Department responded to the crash.

Chick's 2002 Ford Crown Victoria veered off to the left side and struck a tree head-on, according to a report from the department.

Chick had a history of heart problems and high-blood pressure and had previously had a stroke, said his brother, Ronald Chick. The cause of death has not been determined.

The report said Chick was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat beat during the crash.
