St. Louis Zoo tops 3 million visitors

ST. LOUIS — Officials at the St. Louis Zoo are celebrating a year of near-record attendance.
The zoo says attendance in 2011 topped the 3 million mark and exceeded 2010 numbers by nearly 85,000. The all-time record was slightly more than 3.1 million visitors in 2009.
Attendance would have likely been even higher in 2011 if not for an extremely hot summer, when the St. Louis metro area had 14 days of 100-degree temperatures.
