JEFFERSON CITY — Charges against one of the two men charged in a fatal shooting in Jefferson City have been dismissed.
Twenty-three-year-old Rafel Fuentes, of California, Mo., had been charged with second-degree murder and hindering prosecution in the Dec. 18, 2011 death of Francisco Navarro at a Jefferson City mobile home park.
Prosecutor Mark Richardson said Thursday the charges against Fuentes were dropped because evidence in the case showed that a single shooter acted alone in the death.
Authorities say Navarro was shot after getting out of a pickup truck to intervene in a fight.
The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/zSOa3Z) that 22-year-old Jose Hurtado, also of California, is charged with second-degree murder. He remains in the Cole County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
