Stephens basketball drops AMC opener in overtime

COLUMBIA — The Stephens College basketball team lost its American Midwest Conference opener 58-56 in overtime Thursday night at Silverthorne Arena.

The Stars led 28-13 at halftime, but the Hornets' Tonette Murphy made a 3-pointer with 58 seconds left in regulation to pull Harris-Stowe within 51-50. Murphy then made a free-throw with 15.9 seconds to go to send the game into overtime.

The score went back and forth in the extra period, but the Hornets ended up on top to drop the Stars to 1-12 overall this season.

Jessica McConnell and Vanessa Rogers led Stephens with 13 points apiece, and Andie Young scored 10 for the Stars.

Murphy led Harris-Stowe (3-13) with 16 points.
