Columbia College women's basketbal team wins conference opener

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women's basketball team beat Park University 83-74 on Thursday night in its American Midwest Conference opener at Southwell Complex.
The Cougars (11-6) had runs of 12-0 and 10-1 to build a 41-32 halftime advantage. Free-throw shooting helped Columbia College stay ahead in the second period, and the Cougars made 29 of their 35 attempts while sending the Pirates to the line just 16 times.
Airelle Eldridge led Columbia College with 20 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Heather English had 18 points and three steals, while Julie Teeple posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Tierney Seifert scored 10 points and made five assists. Oasha White led the Pirates (11-3) with 23 points.
Columbia College plays next at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stephens College.
