UPDATE: Columbia man upgraded to serious condition after snowplow accident

COLUMBIA — Cory Speaks, a 31-year-old Columbia resident, has been upgraded from critical to serious condition after he was injured inan accident Thursday

At around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Speaks hit a snow plow with his vehicle, but continued to walk north in the southbound lane on U.S. 63. He was struck by the first vehicle then. Five minutes later, he was struck by a tractor trailer.

Speaks was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the snowplow, 52-year-old Marlin Gessling, refused treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

Neither of the drivers of the vehicles that struck Speaks were injured.
