SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — About 150 people were evacuated after fire broke out at a Springfield hotel for homeless families.

Springfield Fire Chief David Hall says a firefighter and at least two people were taken to the hospital after the fire was reported around 3 a.m. Friday. The extent of their injuries is not known.

Executive director Rorie Orgeron said two rooms were destroyed by the blaze, and there is smoke and water damage throughout the building.

The Springfield News-Leader reports Orgeron said it's not clear how soon residents will be able to return to the hotel, and he's working to find them places to stay.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
