1955-2012

Marty (Mark Duwayne) Esser of New Franklin died at his home Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the age of 56. Marty was born Sept. 2, 1955, in Boonville, to Harold and Mildred (Diel) Esser. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1973 and married Debbie Rohlfing on May 14, 1976. She survives at the family home. Marty was the assistant superintendent of maintenance for campus facilities atMU before being promoted to assistant director of facility operations in August 2011, a job he held until the time of his death. Prior to his university tenure, Marty co-owned a plumbing business in Boonville.

In addition to his wife, Debbie, Marty is also survived by his son Michael and his wife, Ani, and their children, Ava and Grayson of Austin,Texas,and Kaya Fenton of Bella Vista, Ark.; his father, Harold Esser of Boonville; brothers, Ron (Mary) Esser of Berkeley Heights, N.J., and Brian (Toni) Esser of Boonville; sisters, Karen Esser of Boonville and Robin (Mike) Gross of Macomb, Mich.; his mother-in-law, Barbara Rohlfing; sisters-in-law, Mona (Joe) Sander and Lisa (Ken) Hirlinger of Boonville; brother-in-law, Alan (Linda) Rohlfing of St. Charles; and many nieces and nephews.

Hismother, Mildred Esser; two infant sisters, Barbara and Susan Esser; and his father-in-law, Raymond Rohlfing, died earlier.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home, 113 East Broadway, New Franklin, from 4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin, with the Rev. Cliff Caton officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
