Denise Twyman, mother of three, was beloved by many

COLUMBIA — Although Denise Twyman had three daughters, several others called her "Mom" throughout her life, including her daughters' friends.

"She never turned them away," said Kenneth Twyman, her husband. "Although we weren’t related, they called us 'Mom' and 'Dad,' just like they were our own. She touched a lot of lives."

Mrs. Twyman of Eldon died Monday at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. She was 58.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1953, in Tuscumbia to Raymond and Darlene (Fry) Huffman.

She married Kenneth Twyman on June 23, 1974, in Stover. She attended the University of Central Missouri, where she studied to become a counselor.

She was employed at Eldon Drug for 26 years.

Besides caring for her family, Mrs. Twyman enjoyed music and tended to a flower garden.

"Denise loved to sing and play music," Kenneth Twyman said. "She played the piano and 12-string guitar."

Mrs. Twyman was a member of Aurora Springs Baptist Church in Eldon and sang for the church choir. She also strongly supported the music program at Eldon High School, where all three of her daughters were involved with band and choir.

"She was a loving person," Kenneth Twyman said. "She was a great inspiration for a whole bunch of people."

Mrs. Twyman is survived by her husband, Kenneth Twymanof Eldon; three daughters, Leah Quail and her husband, Mike, of Merriam Woods Village, Chantry AlMraiyan and her husband, Noor, of Houston, and Megan Groll and her husband, Josh, of Eldon; father, Raymond Huffman of Stover; sister, Sheryl Lehman of Versailles, Mo.;  and six grandchildren, Bryanna, Jordan, Assurie, McKenison Quail and Traven McGowan.

Her mother and a brother, Kenny Lehman, died earlier.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon followed by a service at 2 p.m. at the Stover Cemetery in Stover.
